Penn State school newspaper does a story about College Football Quest
Game 13: Alabama Crimson Tide @ Penn State Nittany Lions
The RV idea that was first hatched in Lubbock, Texas in November 2009 and further solidified in Iowa City last November has come to fruition (despite my belief that it would never happen).
Penn State Press Release
Date: August 18, 2011 | …and this year one of their stops will be Happy Valley, to watch the Nittany Lions take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, September 10. This time, they’re bringing a Winnebago and, Botta says slyly, “that could change everything.”
Game 12: Ohio State Buckeyes @ Iowa Hawkeyes
Each year, we try to make sure that there is a marquee game that we can really look forward to. This year, that game is Ohio State at Iowa.
Game 11: Pittsburgh Panthers @ Connecticut Huskies
You can read more about unusual coaching moves that are the right thing to do, such as why all punts should be kicked out of bounds in my upcoming book.
Game 10: Ohio Bobcats @ Miami (Ohio) RedHawks
Unbeknownst to us and probably the players in this game, this game was the deciding factor in the MAC’s East Division. Despite losing this game, Miami finished with a 7-1 conference record to edge the 6-2 Bobcats for the East Division title.
Game 9: South Florida Bulls @ Cincinnati Bearcats
This is the first doubleheader of the quest. I don’t expect that there will be too many doubleheaders because a significant part of the enjoyment of this quest is having the full experience at each school. But there will be times where it makes sense to combine two games on one trip.
Game 8: Oklahoma Sooners @ Texas Tech Red Raiders
This game looked like a good one at the beginning of the season. Really, honest it did. In what I thought would be a matchup of two ranked teams and maybe a Big 12 division on the line, it was in fact a battle to become bowl eligible.
Game 7: Ohio Bobcats @ Buffalo Bulls
…but here we are flying to Buffalo for a MAC contest. How did Ohio not win this game by 50 and how did Buffalo not pull this out in the end?
Game 6: Florida State Seminoles @ Boston College Eagles
First, field level end zone seats do not allow you to see an awful lot. Second, if we are coming to your city, it will rain…a lot. It rained all morning. Fortunately, it stopped for most of the game except for a five minute span where it poured.
Game 5: Duke Blue Devils @ Army Black Knights
Going to Army has been a trip I have been looking forward to since the launch of this quest. I have heard nothing but great things about the experience of seeing an Army football game.
Game 4: Florida State Seminoles @ Maryland Terrapins
There will probably not be too many road trips given our base in New York, but this game was the first road trip of the quest. This game being on ESPN at 7:45pm allowed us to leave Saturday morning for the 250 mile trek to College Park, Maryland.
Game 3: Central Michigan Chippewas @ Northern Illinois Huskies
If the game in Austin was the kickoff to the quest and the game targeted from the beginning, game #2 (really #3) at Northern Illinois was the game that made the quest real. No matter what the temp was it felt much colder and wet as it was very foggy.
Game 2: Missouri Tigers @ Texas Longhorns
Game #1 (officially game #2 when you include Florida) of the college football quest was a headline matchup. This was a game that I targeted from the start.
Game 1: @ Florida Gators
The place that started it all…the University of Florida.
