COLLEGE FOOTBALL QUEST TO VISIT ILLINOIS FOR WEEK 0 GAME VS WYOMING
Trip Is Part of Two College Football Fans Mission to See a Game at Every College Football Stadium
New York, NY – The College Football Quest (CFQ) has announced that it will be in Champaign for the season opener against the Wyoming Cowboys. Since 2008, Jarrett Singer and Al Botta have been on a rather unusual quest: to watch a college football game in every home FBS football stadium in the country. They’ve started the website CollegeFootballQuest.com to keep fans updated on their progress, and will stop at the University of Illinois during Week 0 for the August 27, 2022 game vs. Wyoming. “We are looking forward to another stop in the BigTen as BigTen football is always electric” Al states. Jarrett adds, “I am anxious to see if Illinois can build on Coach Bielema’s initial campaign and if the relative success at the end of the year can be a launching pad to a bowl game this year”. Al goes on further to state that “We are also glad to make this trip in August and we hope to get a beautiful sunny day to enjoy all that the University and its surroundings have to offer”.
The CFQ began in 2008 and has completed 56 out of 131 trips to current FBS schools. Future stops this year include; Minnesota, Air Force, and Georgia State. Over the years, they’ve had an opportunity to see a lot of critical games and plays develop. In the first year of their quest, at a game in DeKalb, Illinois, between the Central Michigan Chippewa’s and the Northern Illinois Huskies, Singer and Botta watched as Northern Illinois battled back from a twenty-four point deficit to force overtime, only to throw an interception and lose. “Exciting games like that keep us going on the Quest, regardless of school size or ranking,” Singer says. Al adds, “They are not all great games or in good weather. We have sat in a typhoon in Oregon and watched Cal fumble the ball the first 8 times they touched it, and lose by about a gazillion points. Jarrett’s sneakers we full of water 4 inches high until he got back to NYC!!” Both were also in attendance in 2015 at Georgia Tech when the Yellow Jackets blocked a field goal on the last play of the game to upset an undefeated and top 10 Florida State team, something that made Jarrett very happy.
And even their sports experiences are not always limited to college football. Jarrett and Al expect to fully tour the campus, stadium, and facilities, documenting as they go on their website, www.collegefootballquest.com. Jarrett mentions, “We have gotten better at documenting our trips over the years. That will be very important when we are still doing this in our 70’s and have trouble remembering those earlier trips. Therefore, it is important that we document the entire experience and not just the game and stadium.” Al adds, “There is an amazing history here that has been passed down, and remains intact with the current student and fan base. Can’t wait to participate!”
The Quest has given them an opportunity to see a lot of things in America’s college towns they might have otherwise missed. They cite touring West Point, seeing a hockey game at Miami of Ohio, and tailgating with Hawkeye fans in Iowa City as just some of the highlights of their journey thus far.
Both Botta and Singer are members of the Football Writers Association of America.
About College Football Quest
Since 2008, Jarrett Singer and Al Botta have been on a quest to see a college football game in every home FBS stadium. The seeds of CFQ were planted when Jarrett Singer was attending the University of Florida where he enrolled in a course called Coaching Football. CFQ has evolved into more than just a “check the stadium off a list” event. CFQ strives to obtain the full experience at each location, trying to spend a full few days at each venue as opposed to a quick in and out to just see the game. The game day experience is always the highlight, but CFQ wants to experience tours of the campus, visiting local eateries and shops, tourist attractions, pre game networking with fans, and other local events. CFQ has received national attention in 2015, being profiled in USA today. Their website CollegeFootballQuest.com keeps fans updated on their progress.
