Random thoughts on the upcoming weekend of college football.
1. The week gets off to a Thursday start with Arizona at UTSA. First, is there a better nickname in college sports than the Roadrunners, maybe only Coastal Carolina (google it). Second, this game is being played at UTSA. How did they manage to get Arizona to come to them? Third, Larry Coker (UTSA HC) has more seniors and returning starters than any other school. The Wildcats will probably be tested tonight. I would keep this game on rotation with the Green Bay vs. Seattle game.
2. On Friday we will see if the Pittsburgh Panthers rushing attack will be as impressive against an FBS school. It looked mighty impressive against Delaware, but BC is in a different league, literally. If … Read More »

Oklahoma at Baylor – The Baylor offense came to play as we all expected they would. What was surprising was the Baylor defense. The Sooners struggled to get things going and were never able to find their offensive rhythm being held to 237 total yards and only 10 offensive points. The Bears move to 8-0 and now that their schedule has some meat to it, may finally get into the national title conversation.
Oregon at Stanford – For the second year in a row, the Cardinal has crushed the Ducks hopes at a national title. Stanford pounded on Oregon jumping out to a 26-0 lead before holding back a late rally by the Ducks. Time of possession in this game was 42:34 to 17:26. The Cardinal shut down the high … Read More »

North Carolina at South Carolina – I think everybody got what they expected in this game, at least on a team level. SC was never in jeopardy of losing, but did not quite dominate. The interesting note on this game was the reaction to the play of Jadeveon Clowney. I will reserve judgment until next week. He has earned a pass from me on this one. Let’s see how he plays against Georgia.
Ole Miss at Vanderbilt – This was every bit the game that I thought it would be. This back and forth game kept me awake and riveted. This game could springboard Ole Miss into a very successful season and the top recruiting classes they have brought in, could be as advertised. But it is only one … Read More »

With NFL training camps opening this past weekend, I am getting really antsy for football season. The first college games kick off on Thursday, August 29 and I have already looked at the schedule.
During the season, I try not to get too far ahead in looking at the schedule and prefer to live in the moment of the current week. But that is just impossible now as there is nothing to keep my interest from wandering to opening weekend.
With that being said, let’s look ahead to some of the better games of the weekend and there are some good ones in Week 1.

Ole Miss @ Vanderbilt – This is a very exciting game and while that would normally be a sarcastic comment with these two teams, this year it is not. These are … Read More »
