Are You Ready For Some Football, College Football that is? 2015 Edition

It is the time of year in New York where simply commuting into Manhattan leaves one dripping with sweat. Fortunately, the commuter railroad known as the LIRR, sees fit to lower the AC to a cool 80 degrees; when the AC is working. The subway tunnels remind me of a sauna combined with the body odor of Jerry’s BMW. It is the time of year where I long for the bitter cold we experienced in Maryland or Northern Illinois. That is how I know that I am insane and that college football is right around the corner. It is simply not a normal thing to wish summer to be over so that the Quest may continue. But that is who I am.

Things have not been quiet at College Football Quest headquarters. … Read More »

The Week that Was – Recap of Week 4 2014

A look back at Week 4 of the college football season.

I will admit that I did not see very much college football this weekend. My job took me to Denmark over the weekend and while you can generally find NFL football in Copenhagen, college football is impossible. I did manage to watch the Gators not be able to play offense or defense but that is about it.

1. The dedication award goes to me. I did the impossible and was able to watch the Gators. This was an epic quest that had me sitting behind the reception desk at my hotel, using an impossibly slow WiFi connection, slingbox, VPN, and iPad to watch the Gators ineptitude. That game should have been 72-0. Alabama alone kept Florida in this game. If Florida … Read More »

The Week that Was – Recap of Week 3 2014

A look back at Week 3 of the college football season.

1. Ok, I was wrong. The schedule appeared light, but three Top 25 teams lost to unranked opponents; USC, Virginia Tech, and Louisville. Additionally, UCLA barely escaped against a down Texas team. Further, the only match-up of Top 25 teams was a good one as South Carolina beat Georgia. I think both of those teams have some work to do on defense. I believe that I wrote…I don’t see any other game where a Top 25 team is challenged with the possible exception of East Carolina at Virginia Tech. Not exactly on the nose, but I did allude to one of the upsets, so at least there is that.

2. Did Vanderbilt really have to rally with two TD’s in the 4Q, the second coming with … Read More »

Bold Predictions For 2014 – 1st Follow-Up    9/8/2014

Here’s my first follow-up to my predictions:

Charlie Weis has won a game. Hooray!!!  Now clearly it wasn’t against a mighty powerhouse like Kansas State (he he ha ha), but he did manage a “W”, which was important being he has impossible games the rest of the way (can’t believe Duke is an impossible game). Sure the game this past weekend against Orville Reddinbochers School of Growing Better Popcorn, but they did win, and the game was over at halftime in convincing fashion. The problem was they let them climb back in, all the way to an onside kick with under 2 minutes left. Too close, no finish, poor coaching. Still on target for September 29th where he will have a tee time on the Blue Course at Doral. I just can’t see … Read More »

The Week that Was – Recap of Week 1 2014

1. The first Quest trip of the year got off to a lovely start (picture as much sarcasm as possible and then multiply by 100). Eleven of us sat in the Swamp for 5 hours and saw 10 seconds of football. Thank you mother nature. I can’t fault the officials for postponing / canceling this game but it sure did suck. The first Gator game for the kids was not to be this year. A lot of money was spent flying, staying, eating, and shopping in Gainesville and we had a good time, but we did not see anything more than one kickoff. I certainly hope this is not foreshadowing of the year to come. Stat of the night…In the six hours around kickoff, there were over 1,100 lightning strikes … Read More »

Week 1 2014 Preview – Pondering the Future

Posted by Jarrett in Jarrett Singer's Blog. No Comments

27th August

Posted: August 27, 2014

1. The Quest begins Week 1 with the annual Gainesville trip, family in tow. Here’s to hoping it does not cost as much as last years trip to Syracuse….too late! But on the plus side, the kids first Gator game. Let’s hope it’s not another Georgia Southern debacle.

2. Al has no chance of gaining ground in the overall standings this year. I am ahead and not looking back….ever!

3. I love the SEC Network starting off with a bang. Thursday night doubleheader… Texas A&M at South Carolina (great opening game) and then Temple at Vanderbilt (they all can’t be premier games). I hope Aggie fans enjoyed last year, because without Manziel, this year they are going to realize how tough the SEC really is.

4. I came within an hour of being stranded in Europe in … Read More »

Al’s 2014 College Football Predictions

Posted by Al Botta in Al Botta's Blog. No Comments

27th August

August 27, 2014

Everyone has their predictions, so why not me as well? I’m going to take a different spin on things, adding a little CollegeFootballQuest flavoring to my mix on some of them, and of course, not pick this years champion:

Charlie Weis has to go. I am not sure how you win no games and keep your job. I feel like he hasn’t won a game since 2010 (I could be exaggerating). There just seems like there is no plan there, similar to when Don Maloney took over the Islanders. You have three must win games out of the gate that he will lose 2 of, and then host Texas. September 29th he will have a tee time on the Blue Course at Doral. I just can’t see this going any other way. Yes, and I compared him to Maloney.

My Preseason Top 25 Poll – 2014

Posted by Jarrett in Jarrett Singer's Blog. No Comments

25th August

Posted: August 25, 2014

I now present the definitive Top 25 preseason poll. I polled all one of me, tabulated the results, and now present my top 25 poll.

This poll is based on who I think are the better teams. In my opinion, a higher ranked team would beat a lower ranked team on a neutral field. It is not based on how they will finish the year. For example, if I think the Rajin’ Cajuns will go undefeated and therefore the media will vote them high because only record matters, I may have them ranked significantly lower, because I do not believe they would beat the teams higher than them on a neutral field.

Simply put, my rankings are who I think are the best teams, irrespective of record. Not to say wins and … Read More »

Want To Be Part Of and Help Us With “The Quest”????

I have to admit, we have a great time on The Quest!! What’s not to like about college football games, big time football fans, tailgating, cheerleaders, new locations, rivalries, touring campuses and facilities, food challenges, LaGuardia Airport…ok well maybe not LaGuardia Airport, but the list is endless for an  opportunity to experience all that is good about college football!!

We get asked while on every trip “how can we be part of your Quest”? Of course by then it is almost too late. So here’s how. If we are coming to your school, we’d love to talk to you and learn anything and everything there is to know about your school and program! You’ll probably even get quote and a picture on our Trip Report page, if that … Read More »

Week 11 Recap

12th November

Oklahoma at Baylor – The Baylor offense came to play as we all expected they would. What was surprising was the Baylor defense. The Sooners struggled to get things going and were never able to find their offensive rhythm being held to 237 total yards and only 10 offensive points. The Bears move to 8-0 and now that their schedule has some meat to it, may finally get into the national title conversation.

Oregon at Stanford – For the second year in a row, the Cardinal has crushed the Ducks hopes at a national title. Stanford pounded on Oregon jumping out to a 26-0 lead before holding back a late rally by the Ducks. Time of possession in this game was 42:34 to 17:26. The Cardinal shut down the high … Read More »

Week 10 Recap

6th November

USC at Oregon State – The Trojans continue to impress since the firing of Lane Kiffin winning three of four games. USC is playing like I expected them to when I predicted an 8-1 conference record and winning the Pac12 South. I guess I did not factor enough of the Lane Kiffin influence. This loss for the Beavers hurt, as any remote chance of winning the North evaporated.

Georgia vs Florida – My Gators could not shake a dismal start and fall 23-20 to the rival Bulldogs. I am not really sure that either team walks away from this game feeling good, but a W is a W. Amid a very chippy game featuring many personal fouls of the offsetting variety, Todd Gurley was the difference. Georgia ran out the clock with … Read More »

USC at Oregon State – A rare Friday night match up of not horrible teams. This game should be entertaining and fun to watch. There is nothing of immediate importance in this game but neither team is out of the race in their respective division, so this game is important to both sides. USC is playing a lot better since the firing of Lane Kiffin.

Georgia vs Florida – The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Soda Party kicks off at 3:30. Both teams are reeling and injured. The Bulldogs and Gators both enter 3-2 in the SEC with slim hopes of winning the SEC East. Loser is clearly out. Winner needs help.

Michigan at Michigan State – These two teams are atop one of the Big10 divisions and the winner of this game has … Read More »

Week 8 Recap

22nd October

Posted: October 22, 2013

Wow what a week. Six of the top 12 teams go down, with three losing to unranked teams. Things in the SEC looked upside down with Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Ole Miss winning while Florida, Texas A&M, Georgia, South Carolina, and LSU lost. Lots of really good games. This was a great week to be on your couch all day Saturday.

Miami at North Carolina – Does any Top 10 team look less like a Top 10 team than Miami? Nov 2 versus FSU is looming large, but I would not put it past the Canes to lose to Wake.

UCF at Louisville – The Cards got the exact scenario they needed this weekend which amounted to chaos. That was their only hope of getting into the title game with their anemic schedule. … Read More »

Central Florida at Louisville – Last chance for Louisville to lose and they are 12.5 point favorites. Gotta love the Cards schedule. Al will be pulling hard for his Knights but put the Cards down for undefeated and not a top 10 team in my book.

Florida State at Clemson – Easily the game of the week. I look forward to being on my couch in front of the big screen for this one. It is tough for me to see a scenario where the winner does not advance to the ACC Championship game. I expect this to be a great game.

Auburn at Texas A&M – A match up of ranked teams? Yes it is as Auburn slips into the Top 25 this week. Vegas is not giving the Tigers much of … Read More »

Oregon at Washington – As expected, the Huskies did not get blown out, but the Ducks win comfortably. Washington is a program headed in the right direction, but they just cannot compete with the elite of the Pac12….yet. Oregon just needs to avoid a massive mistake versus Washington State before they head into back to back games against UCLA and Stanford.

Boston College at Clemson – BC was leading this game going into the 4Q. Clemson now has a big showdown with the Seminoles. That will be must see TV.

Stanford at Utah – The Utes get their biggest home win beating a Top 5 team at home for the first time with a big goal line stand at the end of the game. The Utes played a great game and were rewarded … Read More »
